How to
Organize
Your Home

Have you wondered how to organize your home and your life? It's not as hard as you might think. When you know how to organize you will enjoy the many benefits of living in a clutter-free environment. You'll get a boost in life energy, and you'll save lots of money and time.

There are many approaches to organizing your home. These are my tips:

  1. Organize one thing at a time. Start with one cabinet under the bathroom or kitchen sink, one desk drawer, or one closet. Breaking a project into smaller tasks is much more manageable.
  2. If there is something you have not looked at in months (not bills), worn in the last couple of years, or has been broken for a year, either recycle it, give it to a charity, or throw it away.
  3. Use the "in and out inventory rule": when something new comes in, something old goes out.
  4. Have bins and boxes on lower shelves so children can put away their belongings. If the child is old enough, have him or her label them.
  5. Allocate twice as much time for a project as you think it will take. This will allow for interruptions and stopping to get more information.
  6. Establish SMART Goals: Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, and Timely.

If you follow these six steps on how to organize your environment, you will create a pleasant and clutter-free space. And if you stick to them in the long run, you will never look back again!
