How to Organize
There are many ways to organize. Here are a few tips.
- Organize one thing at a time. Start with one cabinet under the bathroom or kitchen sink, one desk drawer, or one closet. Breaking a project into smaller tasks is much more manageable.
- If there is something you have not looked at in months (not bills), worn in the last couple of years, or has been broken for a year, either recycle it, give it to a charity, or throw it away.
- Use the "in and out inventory rule": when something new comes in, something old goes out.
- Have bins and boxes on lower shelves so children can put away their belongings. If the child is old enough, have him or her label them.
- Allocate twice as much time for a project as you think it will take. This will allow for interruptions and stopping to get more information.
- Establish SMART Goals: Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, and Timely.
